The Judicial Council has approved Prof. Richard Frimpong Oppong, a distinguished Fellow of the Ghana Academy of Sciences and Professor of Law, along with Justice Sophia Rosetta Bernasko Essah of the Court of Appeal, for appointment to the Supreme Court Bench.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced their approval during the inauguration of the Governing Board of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre on July 16, 2024.
Both nominees are now set to undergo parliamentary vetting, as required by the constitution.
Prof. Frimpong Oppong will join Prof. Mensah-Bonsu as a legal academic on Ghana’s highest court, bringing extensive experience in law practice and arbitration both locally and internationally.
He is recognized for his teaching roles in Ghana, Europe, and America, adding to the Bench a legacy of academic excellence comparable to predecessors such as Justice Professor Date-Bah and Mensah-Bonsu.
Justice Bernasko Essah’s background includes significant roles as a State Attorney, private practitioner, and service as a Justice of the High Court and Court of Appeal.
Her membership in the International Association of Women Judges underscores her commitment to judicial excellence and diversity.
Their appointments represent a significant reinforcement of Ghana’s Supreme Court with accomplished legal scholars and practitioners, poised to uphold the highest standards of justice and jurisprudence in the country.
