
President Nana Akufo-Addo has commissioned the Koforidua Resource Center in the Eastern Region on Wednesday, 27 December, 2023.
The first Youth Resource Center commissioned forms part of the government’s project to construct 10 Resource Centers across the country to improve on Sports infrastructure in Ghana by fostering physical and intellectual growth.
The edifice comprises a FIFA-standard football pitch, a nine-lane athletic track, and versatile courts for tennis, basketball, handball, and volleyball.
The facility also includes a modern gymnasium, counselling centre, information technology hub, entrepreneurship centre, and a contemporary restaurant, providing a holistic environment for physical and intellectual development
According to the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Youth Authority Pius Henam Hadzide says the newly refurbished Koforidua Youth Resource Center will be managed by a third party to ensure its sustainability.
Many Ghanaians have questioned the competence of the National Sports Authority, the managers of sports facilities in the country amidst the recent deterioration of national stadia including Accra Sports Stadium meanwhile,Pius has revealed that NYA will adopt a new strategy to maintain the facility.
Speaking at the event, Pius said “to ensure sustainability, National Youth Authority has decided to leverage a third-party facility managers to manage and oversee the regular and proper maintenance and usage of the facility.”
