The coronavirus has well and truly stuffed the movie and television industry, causing many projects to delay production or release.

While countless shows have been pushed back again and again, The Matrix 4 has been brought…forward.

Warner Bros. has announced a massive reshuffle of its schedule for the next two years and there is some big news for fans of Neo.

The fourth instalment to the incredible franchise will now premiere on December 22 next year instead of the intended date of April 1 2022.

Keanu Reeves reckons the movie is going to be ‘something special’.

He added: “I haven’t seen them yet, because we’re still making them, but I can tell you that [director] Lana Wachowski is an incredible filmmaker and artist and she’s written a wonderful script.

“We’re doing our darnedest to make something special, and the same goes for John Wick, we hope that we can create a really satisfying and enjoyable next chapter.”

Incidentally, that John Wick film is scheduled to be released on 27 May 2022, so we’ve got a while to go on that front.

The latest instalment will see Reeves return to the role of Neo, alongside Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity, Jade Pinkett-Smith as Niobe, and Lambert Wilson as The Merovingian.

There are also roles for Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra, Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, and a host of others. We don’t know what those roles will be, but we’ll just have to wait and see what Lana Wachowski comes up with.

While The Matrix 4 will be coming to our screens sooner than we thought, the same can’t be said for other titles on the Warner Bros. schedule.

The movie studio was due to drop the Robert Pattinson-led movie on October 1 next year, however it’s now been delayed to March 4, 2022.

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has caused production to be delayed several times and Warner Bros. wants to give the cast and crew more time to get everything done. In addition to The Batman, the high-anticipated Dune film adaptation has bee delayed from December 18 this year to October 1, 2021.

Ezra Miller’s The Flash has moved from June 3, 2022 to November 4 of. the same year and Shazam 2 is moving from November 4, 2022 to June 2, 2023.

Warner Bros. is also planning on releasing two as-of-yet-unnamed films on June 3, 2022 and Aug. 5, 2022.
