Thomas Tuchel has officially been named as the new permanent manager of England on an 18-month contract.
The Football Association (FA) has been searching for a successor to Gareth Southgate since he resigned two days following England’s defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 final in July, and they have chosen the former Chelsea manager for the role.

Tuchel will start his £6 million-a-year position on January 1, 2025, making him the third foreign manager of the England national team, following Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.
In a statement released on Wednesday morning, the FA confirmed that Tuchel signed his contract last Tuesday and will be supported by former Chelsea and Bayern Munich coach Anthony Barry.
Upon his appointment, Tuchel expressed, “I am very proud to be given the honor of leading the England team. I have felt a personal connection to the game in this country for a long time, and it has already provided me with some incredible moments.
Representing England is a tremendous privilege, and I am excited about the opportunity to work with this talented and special group of players.”
