The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover, has issued a stern reminder to residents and business operators in Accra about the importance of keeping the newly inaugurated Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange free from unauthorized structures, such as kiosks, wooden shops, and mechanic workshops.

In his address during the inauguration of Phase II of the Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange on Friday, November 29, 2024, the minister stressed that maintaining the aesthetic value and functionality of the interchange is a priority for city authorities.

He emphasized the need for city managers to ensure that the area remains clear of informal developments that could hinder its intended purpose.

This statement echoes the minister’s earlier position regarding similar unauthorized structures that have emerged around the Flower Pot Interchange, highlighting a recurring issue with informal businesses encroaching on newly built infrastructure.

The minister’s remarks reflect growing concerns about how rapidly new infrastructure projects in Accra are often overtaken by informal businesses, despite efforts to keep these areas organized and functional.

Glover’s warning signals a firm stance from city authorities in preserving the integrity of urban planning and infrastructure development.

He pointed to an incident where, despite a clear warning issued during the inauguration of the Flower Pot Interchange, a coconut seller and a banana seller defied the directive and set up their tables under the flyover.

Titus Glover further appealed to residents to respect the government’s efforts to enhance the city’s infrastructure and maintain its beauty.

“Last week Tuesday, during the commissioning of the Flower Pot Interchange, I did say and let me repeat that we don’t want any kiosks, we don’t want any mechanics around the shoulders of this interchange.

“Immediately after I gave the warning last week, a coconut seller and a banana seller tested my resolve. Let us not put anything here. Let us allow the ambience and the beauty of the place to continue.”
