Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, has expressed deep concern over the growing tensions between the Speaker of Parliament and the judiciary, describing them as troubling for the nation.

He criticized recent judicial rulings, labeling them illogical and uninspiring. His remarks follow former Supreme Court Judge Justice William Atuguba’s critique of the Supreme Court panel’s composition that ruled in favor of Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin’s suit against Speaker Alban Bagbin’s decision to declare four parliamentary seats vacant.
Atuguba described the ruling as “predictable” based on the panel’s makeup.
Speaking during the 9th Congregation of Ensign Global College in Kpong, Eastern Region, Togbe Afede lamented the judiciary’s current state and its controversial interpretations of the law.
“It’s unfortunate that a former Supreme Court justice said the judiciary has become very predictable, it’s unfortunate. And some of the decisions that have been made by the judiciary have not been very inspiring.
“We want the judiciary that we all know exists to protect all of us, ensure freedoms, and ensure fair justice delivery. But happenings recently have given us cause for concern. Sometimes, in some ways the laws interpreted just defy logic.
