Career: “At first I started playing football, but I didn’t like it. I also tried basketball and rugby. Since I was a somewhat rebellious and undisciplined boy, my foster mother advised me to do judo and I was sent to coach Vittorio Serenelli. At the beginning I was not even enthusiastic about judo, but when I entered my first competitions, I became passionate.”

He was born in Brescia, Italy, to Ghanaian parents, and has dual Italian and Ghanaian citizenship. “I lived with them [his biological parents] for the first 10 years of my life, until my parents got divorced and the social workers and a prosecutor intervened and entrusted me to several families. I have always kept in touch with my birth mother, whom I have continued to see very often since I was placed in other families.”
