Archie Gray, an 18-year-old midfielder for Leeds, is set to join Tottenham in a deal worth between £30million and £40m.

As part of the agreement, defender Joe Rodon will move to Leeds in a separate deal worth around £10m.

Gray, who has been capped by England at the Under-21 level and is also eligible to play for Scotland, was a key player for Leeds last season, making 52 appearances in all competitions.

He signed a new long-term deal with Leeds in January, but the club’s failure to secure promotion to the Premier League has forced them to sell players to comply with profit and sustainability rules.

Gray’s move to Tottenham is expected to be completed soon, with the player set to undergo a medical at the club’s training ground.

The deal is a significant coup for Tottenham, who have beaten off competition from London rivals Brentford and other Premier League clubs like Chelsea and Liverpool.

Brentford had a bid for Gray rejected by Leeds on Sunday, despite the player undergoing a medical at their training ground.

The sale of Gray is expected to generate enough funds for Leeds to comply with profit and sustainability rules, which have been a concern for the club following their defeat in the Championship Play-Off final to Southampton.

In addition to Gray’s move to Tottenham, Leeds defender Charlie Cresswell is set to join Toulouse for £3.8m, while Marc Roca has been sold to Real Betis for a reported £4m.

Leeds’ decision to sell Gray and other players is seen as a necessary step to ensure the club’s financial stability.

The sales will help Leeds comply with profit and sustainability rules, which are designed to ensure that clubs operate within their means and do not accumulate excessive debt.

By selling Gray and other players, Leeds can reduce their wage bill and generate funds to invest in new players and improve their squad.
