A devastating road accident occurred in Kwapia, near Obuasi in the Ashanti Region, during the early hours of Monday, October 14, 2024, resulting in the deaths of 13 passengers.

The incident involved a VIP bus traveling from Kumasi to Enchi in the Western North region, which reportedly veered off its lane and crashed into a ditch.
According to police sources, the fatalities include seven males, five females, and a child. While 12 individuals died at the scene, the driver, identified as Osei Adu, succumbed to his injuries shortly after being taken to the hospital.
Eyewitnesses indicated that the bus, with registration number ER 2445-11, had picked up additional passengers from another bus that had broken down, leading to an overloaded vehicle.
It was suggested that some passengers’ protests against the driver’s decisions may have distracted him, contributing to the tragic accident.
Those injured in the crash are currently receiving medical care, and the police are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The bodies of the deceased have been transferred to the morgue as authorities work to provide support to the affected families.
The accident has sent shockwaves through the local community, leaving families and friends in mourning.
