The Minister for Transport, Joseph Nikpe Bukari, has announced new measures to improve safety on Ghana’s inland waterways.

According to the Minister, the government is working through the Ghana Maritime Authority to deploy trained safety officers and set up satellite offices across key inland water transport areas.

“To improve the safety of inland water transport, the government, through the Ghana Maritime Authority, is deploying safety officers and establishing satellite officers,” he said.

He added that the safety officers will undergo training before being officially commissioned later this year.

“His Excellency the President will commission the safety teams later this year after their training,” the Minister stated.

The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to make water transport safer and more reliable, especially for communities that depend on it for daily travel and trade.
