The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC), and other allied transport unions have called off their planned demonstration over the poor state of the Amasaman–Nsawam road.

In a joint statement issued on Thursday, August 21, 2025, the groups said the decision followed the contractor’s return to site to resume construction on the stretch.

The unions, which had earlier threatened a strike if urgent action was not taken, said they were encouraged by the government’s intervention and renewed commitment to repairing the road.

“We commend the Government of Ghana and the relevant authorities for their timely intervention, which demonstrates a commitment to resolving the pressing challenges that affect both transport operators and commuters,” the statement noted.

The transport operators further assured commuters and stakeholders of their readiness to work with the government to promote road safety and protect lives and property. They also pledged support for broader efforts aimed at ensuring sustainable road infrastructure across the country.
