Takoradi Technical University (TTU) has launched an Inter-Faculty Research and Publication Ranking System as part of its commitment to promoting academic excellence, research innovation, and global visibility.

The initiative aims to encourage a competitive research culture, foster collaboration among faculties, and cement the university’s reputation as a leader in technical education and research.

Speaking at the 24th TTU Congregation, where 2,678 students graduated with qualifications ranging from Bachelor of Technology to Higher National Diplomas, Vice Chancellor Rev. Prof. John Frank Eshun emphasized the importance of the ranking system.

He noted that it seeks to nurture scholarly excellence among faculty, elevate academic performance, and improve the university’s position in national and international research rankings.

“In line with this, we have introduced an inter-faculty ranking system to assess, promote, and enhance research culture and academic performance. This initiative aligns with our mission to lead in innovation and provide solutions to societal and industrial challenges,” he said.

The Vice Chancellor also highlighted TTU’s efforts to expand its academic programs to meet the needs of students and industry. The university has established three new faculties: the Faculty of Health and Allied Sciences, the Faculty of Maritime and Nautical Studies, and the Faculty of Media Technology and Liberal Studies, bringing the total number of faculties to eight. Plans are underway to introduce PhD programs in Business Analytics and Technology Management, with a long-term goal of developing doctoral programs across all faculties.

In addition to these expansions, TTU introduced new undergraduate programs in Event Management, Real Estate Management, and Media and Communication Technology during the 2023/2024 academic year. These programs are designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge required to excel in emerging fields.

The university also celebrated a significant milestone in inclusive education, with 25 students with disabilities among the graduating class. These included 24 hearing-impaired students and one with a physical disability, marking progress since the establishment of TTU’s Disability Support and Services Unit in 2017. This brings the total number of hearing-impaired graduates to 189.

Out of the 2,678 graduates, 695 were awarded Bachelor of Technology degrees, 1,983 received Higher National Diplomas, and 579 earned Diploma of Technology certificates.

Additionally, 129 individuals completed Competency-Based Training programs. Among the graduates, 74 Bachelor of Technology students and 132 Higher National Diploma students received First Class honors.

Graduands who excelled were honored with citations and cash prizes, including Ebenezer Kwame Egyir, who was recognized as the Overall Best Graduating Student with Disability, and Jeremy Okwesi, who emerged as the Overall Best Graduating Bachelor of Technology student.

Rev. Prof. Eshun reaffirmed TTU’s mission to deliver quality education, foster industry partnerships, and prepare students for success in their respective fields. He encouraged the graduates to embody the university’s motto, “Adwen, Akoma na Nsa ma Mpuntu” (Mind, Heart, and Hands for Development), as they contribute to society and industry.

“We pledge to uphold our mission of academic excellence, research, innovation, and community engagement. Today’s graduates are equipped with the skills and knowledge to create their own opportunities and drive national development,” he stated.

Representing the Chairman of the Governing Council, Ing. Dr. Robert Adjaye also urged the graduates to be ambassadors of TTU, maintaining the university’s excellent reputation and demonstrating the impact of technical education in their endeavors.

This initiative underscores TTU’s dedication to advancing research and innovation while fostering inclusivity and preparing students to meet the challenges of the modern world.
