Poultry farmers in the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District of the Central Region are facing severe challenges in keeping their businesses afloat due to skyrocketing feed costs.

The prices of key feed ingredients such as maize, soya beans, and others have surged, driving up the costs of eggs and poultry, and making it increasingly difficult for farmers to maintain operations.

In addition to the high costs, farmers are also grappling with shortages of feed ingredients, forcing them to travel to other regions to buy supplies. Those who cannot afford the additional costs are being forced to shut down their businesses.

Mr. Jeremiah Makal, caretaker of Maxess Farms at Twifo Praso, shared with the Ghana News Agency how the feed crisis is affecting his farm and causing many others in the area to collapse.

He appealed for urgent government intervention to protect their livelihoods and support the local economy.

He appealed for quick government intervention to save their livelihoods and help boost the local economy.

“The incoming government must provide financial support to help us produce more eggs and roosters for affordability, and for food and job security,” Mr Makal said.

The farm closures had resulted in job losses, affecting local economies while reducing production of chicken and eggs, and threatening food security.
