
The Ghana Police Service has opened a formal investigation into a widely circulated TikTok video in which a man is heard issuing death threats against former President John Dramani Mahama and the First Lady.
In an official statement, the Police confirmed that the footage which has sparked outrage across social media platforms contains remarks considered a direct threat to the lives of the two public figures.
As part of the ongoing probe, two suspects, identified as Prince Ofori and Yayra Abiwu, have been arrested. Both are currently in police custody and assisting investigators with inquiries into the incident.
Authorities say preliminary findings suggest that additional individuals may have been involved in the recording, production, or distribution of the video. Efforts are underway to track down and apprehend these persons for questioning.
“So far, two people, Prince Ofori and Yayra Abiwu, are in police custody assisting the ongoing investigation while efforts are underway to get other persons believed to be connected to the video to assist the investigation,” the statement read.
The Police reiterated their commitment to safeguarding the lives of the President, the First Lady, and all citizens, and urged the public to refrain from publishing or circulating material that could incite violence, spread fear, or disrupt public order. They also called on citizens to cooperate fully with law enforcement efforts to bring all culprits to justice.
