Two individuals have been injured following a clash between the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) and residents of Shia, a border community in the Ho Municipality, over the Immigration Service’s handling of firearms.

An anonymous GIS official explained that the conflict began on Thursday, November 14, when residents questioned the legality of the officers carrying firearms in the area.

Although the situation was initially resolved at the chief’s palace, tensions escalated when agitated youth confronted the officers and blocked roads, leading to the violent clash.

While the two injured individuals are receiving treatment, the Ghana Immigration Service has assured that it will continue dialogue with the community to maintain peace.
