Two people, including a taxi driver, have been confirmed dead following a fuel tanker accident at Asiakwa Junction on Monday, July 29, 2024.

The tanker, traveling from Accra to Kumasi, allegedly experienced brake failure as it approached Asiakwa Junction on the main Accra-Kumasi Highway.
In an attempt to manage the situation, the tanker detached from the cab and rolled onto the lane of oncoming Accra-bound vehicles.
As the taxi driver approached the junction, he attempted to avoid the rolling tanker but became trapped underneath it.

The spilled fuel from the tanker ignited instantly, engulfing both the taxi and the tanker in flames.
Fortunately, two passengers in the taxi managed to escape shortly after the collision, before the fire started.
A truck approaching the Pacific fuel station from Asiakwa Junction, which also failed to observe traffic regulations, collided with the burning tanker.
The driver and his assistant both suffered head injuries. Unfortunately, the assistant died shortly after arriving at Osiem Saviour Memorial Hospital.
