An Accra Circuit Court has remanded two off-duty police constables, General Lance Corporals Philmon Agbevem and Peter Kwame Badagbor, in custody following their alleged involvement in a robbery.

The constables, stationed at the Accra Central District Police Command, are charged with conspiracy to commit crime and robbery after they reportedly attacked an Okada rider and stole GH¢3,700.

The accused, represented by their counsel Andy Vortia, deny all charges. They are scheduled to appear before the court, presided over by Evelyn Asamoah, on September 10, 2024.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kofi Anane, supported by ASP Emmanuel Haligah, outlined that the complainant, Emmanuel Amertodor, an Okada rider from Adenta, was targeted on July 21, 2024.

The officers, on a motorcycle with registration number GP 8145, allegedly detained Amertodor at the Christ the King traffic light near the Jubilee House, claiming he and his pillion rider had stolen a purse from a lady at the National Theatre.

The prosecution claims the constables, in uniform and armed, forcibly transferred GH¢3,700 from Amertodor’s phone to a mobile number registered under Hope Alovordzi and took an additional GH¢120.

They then subjected him to severe beatings and handcuffed him.

Amertodor reported the incident to the Police at Cantonments and subsequently to the Criminal Investigations Department for further investigation.

The accused were apprehended on August 8, 2024. During questioning, they admitted to detaining the complainant but denied the robbery charges.
