President-elect John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his dedication to strengthening Ghana’s security by deepening cooperation with the United States.

During a courtesy visit by a U.S. delegation led by Ambassador Virginia Palmer on Tuesday, December 17, Mahama underscored the need for continued collaboration to address pressing security challenges in the West African region.

He highlighted the shared issues of terrorism, organized crime, and regional instability, emphasizing that a robust partnership with the U.S. is essential for protecting Ghana’s national security and promoting peace across the region.

Mahama also expressed his gratitude for the enduring relationship between Ghana and the U.S., reiterating his commitment to working closely with international partners to confront emerging security threats.

“It is critical even more now than before because of what Ghana is going through in terms of economy and finances but more importantly because of the energy sector. I know the comparative advantage and technology and knowledge that the US has.

“We want to work closely to see how we can resolve some of the issues in that sector. Of course, we worked on the MCC together.  It has made Ghana’s electricity generation sector more resilient than it was before the MCC.   As I said, it was just the final part we couldn’t complete together.

“Luckily we had the opportunity to discuss the MCC when we went there to see how we could wrap up that part of our cooperation,” he stated.
