UGMC successfully completes initial set of six kidney transplant surgeries

The University of Ghana Medical Centre Ltd (UGMC) has announced that it successfully completed its first six kidney transplant surgeries.

In a statement on Sunday night [June 30, 2024], the medical center said the surgeries were carried out by a skilled team of local and international doctors.

“The UGMC has so far conducted six kidney transplant surgeries with utmost precision, care, and expertise,” it said.

According to Dr. Emmanuel Asante, Head of Urology at UGMC, the procedures went smoothly, demonstrating the Centre’s expertise in complex surgeries and post-operative care.

The CEO of UGMC, Dr. Kwame Anim Boamah, said the successful completion of the first six kidney transplants highlights the Centre’s commitment to achieving medical excellence and improving patients’ lives through advanced interventions and compassionate care.

He added that UGMC is dedicated to advancing healthcare standards and innovative practices in transplantation.
