GhanaWeb’s search for a genuinely Ghanaian-owned food business led us to a remarkable family with a century-old tradition of oven-baking ‘domedo’ (pork).
Our curiosity was piqued, and we wanted to uncover the secrets behind this beloved Ghanaian delicacy.

We packed our cameras and headed to Kotobabi in Accra to meet this family and document their time-honored process.
Our journey began at the Pig Farm slaughterhouse, the origin of the town’s name, before we made our way to the Abavana Down area.
There, we met Naa Afrowa, a warm and welcoming host who shared the rich history of her family’s business, which began in the royal house of Ga Mashie, Central Accra.
Her great-grandmother founded the business, and Naa Afrowa was eager to share its stories with our People & Places team.
As we delved deeper, Naa Afrowa revealed a fascinating tale about the origins of the name ‘domedo’, which she shared with our host, Etsey Atisu. The story is a must-listen, and we can’t wait to share it with you.
