The World Happiness Report (WHR) 2024 released Wednesday has crowned Finland as the happiest country of the world for the seventh consecutive time.

This year’s list for the happiest countries was dominated by the Nordic nations, as Finland, Denmark, Iceland, and Sweden clinched the top four spots respectively.

On the contrary, Afghanistan remains at the bottom of the list of 143 countries surveyed, as the countries deals with ongoing humanitarian crises since the Taliban returned to power in 2020.

Additionally, in a first, the United States and Germany have dropped from their ranks in the top 20, landing in 23rd and 24th place.

Meanwhile Costa Rica and Kuwait managed to improve this time and were promoted to the 12th and 13th rank.

WHR examines the current state of happiness globally and shows how the science of happiness can explain the variations in happiness across individuals and nations.
