Urban planning expert Dr. Bernard Abeiku Arthur has issued a strong warning about a looming transport crisis in Ghana unless immediate steps are taken.

As urban areas across the country continue to grow rapidly, the demand on existing infrastructure is becoming unsustainable, leading to worsening traffic congestion.
In Accra, commuters are frequently delayed due to heavy traffic, with notable congestion occurring on Thursday, November 14, along the Spintex and Obetsebi Lamptey roads.

The gridlock, which began in the morning and extended into the evening, caused significant frustration for both drivers and passengers, with delays lasting several hours.
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Citi FM on Friday, November 15, Dr. Arthur emphasized the urgent need for comprehensive and sustainable transportation policies to address these challenges and avert future chaos.
Among his key recommendations were the expansion and modernization of public transport systems, improvements to road infrastructure, and the promotion of alternative transportation methods and bus services. He also called on the government to enforce existing transportation policies more effectively.
Dr. Arthur warned that without these critical measures, Ghana could face severe traffic congestion, worsening air pollution, and a significant decline in the quality of life for its citizens.
