The United States has praised Ghana’s presidential candidates for signing the 4th Presidential Elections Peace Pact ahead of the December 7 general elections.

In a statement released by Rolf A. Olson, the U.S. Chargé d’Affaires in Ghana, the U.S. also commended the National Peace Council and the Institute of Democratic Governance (IDEG) for their leadership in facilitating this crucial initiative.

The Peace Pact is designed to promote peace and prevent violence during and after the elections, ensuring that the democratic process truly reflects the will of the Ghanaian people. Olson underscored the importance of ensuring that no threat of violence should undermine Ghana’s democracy or hinder the free expression of voter preferences.

“The United States wishes Ghana a peaceful, transparent, and credible electoral process on December 7,” Olson stated, reaffirming the U.S.’s commitment to supporting Ghana in its efforts to maintain stability and uphold its democratic principles.

The United States’ endorsement further strengthens Ghana’s international standing as a pillar of democracy and peace in Africa.

The Peace Pact ceremony, held in Accra, brought together key stakeholders, including presidential candidates, civil society organizations, and diplomatic representatives, all united in their commitment to ensuring a peaceful and credible election process.
