CAF Media Officer Ibrahim Sannie Daara has suggested that the government should channel tax revenues from sports betting into upgrading and maintaining the nation’s sports infrastructure.

His proposal follows the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) decision to revoke the Baba Yara Stadium’s approval as a venue for Ghana’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers due to the poor condition of its pitch.

This decision has left Ghana scrambling to find an alternative venue for its upcoming home match against Sudan in October.

Sannie Daara urged the government to prioritize using sports betting tax revenues for stadium improvements instead of allocating them elsewhere.

He pointed out that the government could eventually collect over a million dollars from these taxes.

He also stressed the importance of hiring qualified professionals to manage stadium facilities, arguing that political appointments should be reserved for other areas, while technical experts should ensure stadiums meet international standards.

Ghana currently sits third in Group F of the AFCON qualifiers, with one point after losing to Angola and drawing with Niger in its first two matches.
