Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, the Member of Parliament for Odododiodoo, has commended Speaker Alban Bagbin for his decision not to recall Parliament ahead of the upcoming December elections.
Speaker Bagbin had declined a request from Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin to reconvene Parliament for a two-day sitting, citing concerns about the national interest and the impracticality of the proposed agenda.

The request, made on November 22, 2024, aimed to address 22 items of “urgent Government Business” and “outstanding public business” during a sitting scheduled for November 28 and 29.
In his response, Speaker Bagbin emphasized the need to balance parliamentary duties with the political campaigns underway, deeming it impractical to proceed with the sitting at this time.
Speaking in an interview on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Vanderpuye hailed the decision, calling it wise and in the best interest of the country. He noted that the decision enables Members of Parliament to focus on their election campaigns without the distraction of parliamentary business.
Vanderpuye further emphasized that the Minority caucus is committed to focusing on election preparations and will resume parliamentary duties only after the December elections.
“At this particular time, I don’t think there is any Ghanaian who will find the reason for declining the offer or the request to be improper…The circumstances in which we find ourselves at this moment in time the speaker’s decision was wise, the speaker’s decision was right, the speaker’s decision was the best in the interest of the nation,” he stated.
