Member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Legal and Communication Team, Victor Kwadjoga Adawudu, has called for a renewed and thorough investigation into the murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale, following the discontinuation of the case by the Attorney General’s Office.
The Madina District Court on Tuesday, October 14, discharged the accused, Daniel Owusu Koranteng, who had been charged with murder and abetment of murder in connection with the killing. The move followed a directive from the Attorney General advising that the case be dropped.
Ahmed Suale, a key member of the Tiger Eye P.I. investigative team, was shot dead by unknown assailants in January 2019 — an incident that drew widespread condemnation and demands for justice.
However, progress in the case has been slow, with few leads and limited evidence linking suspects to the crime.
Lawyer Adawudu urged investigators to return “to the drawing board” and conduct a more professional and evidence-based probe.
“For me, this should be an eye-opener. This is something we should look at and go back to the drawing board and look at it and give a specimen. We should be professionals. We must improve the way we do investigations. This case should speak to the conscience of the investigators and authorities. I want the investigators to speak the truth,” he said.
He noted that investigative efforts are often hindered by resource constraints and a lack of institutional support, leading to what he described as “armchair investigations.”
“I think some of the people at the top make things difficult for the younger ones. And some of the investigators, too, the system doesn’t have money for them to travel and do all these investigations. And they do armchair investigations.
“I think that if the system is being researched and we’re being bold for authorities to speak the truth. Let us be bold to speak truth to authority. We need to come to the logical conclusion of the killing of Ahmed Suale so that it never happens again,” he stated.
Mr. Adawudu commended the Attorney General for taking a bold decision to discontinue the case, saying it was the right call given the lack of sufficient evidence to secure a conviction.
“I commend the Attorney General for being bold. Reasons why it will also be discontinued, as he has given, which is that the evidence that has been brought cannot convict. That means you will go to court and do a shoddy job. If they find facts which connect him [suspect], he can be brought back,” he said.
He reiterated the need for transparency and professionalism to ensure justice is eventually served in Ahmed Suale’s murder case.
