Ghana’s Ambassador-Designate to South Korea, Kojo Choi, has disclosed that he is fluent in multiple Ghanaian local languages, a skill he developed after moving to Ghana at the age of 14.
Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV’s Face to Face programme on Tuesday, August 12, Choi revealed that he speaks Twi and Frafra fluently, and also has a working knowledge of Ewe.
During the discussion, host Umaru Sanda Amadu put Choi on the spot, challenging him to demonstrate his linguistic abilities. Choi accepted the challenge with a smile, delivering a few sentences in Twi — a move that drew laughter and appreciation from viewers.
His language display comes at a time of heightened public curiosity about his personal background, especially following his nomination by the government to serve as Ghana’s top diplomat in South Korea. Choi’s ability to communicate in local languages is seen as a reflection of his integration into Ghanaian society and his connection to diverse communities across the country.
