Vitus Azeem, a prominent anti-corruption campaigner, has called for further investigation into the money laundering allegations against former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah.

Despite the Office of the Attorney General (AG) and Ministry of Justice advising against money laundering investigations by the Economic and Organized Crimes Office (EOCO), Azeem believes the matter should not be dropped.

On Morning Starr with Francis Abban, Azeem emphasized that the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) must investigate the matter further.

He argued that CHRAJ should examine Cecilia Dapaah’s asset declaration to determine if the monies were acquired legally and from genuine employment.

Additionally, GRA should establish if she earned the money through genuine business and paid taxes.

Azeem stressed that the matter should not end with EOCO’s decision not to proceed, as there are still two institutions – CHRAJ and GRA – that can take up the investigation and ensure accountability. He believes that allowing the matter to end without further investigation would be unjust.
