The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has failed to provide the Electoral Commission (EC) with evidence of the discrepancies they claimed to have discovered in the Provisional Voters Register during the Exhibition Exercise.

Despite promising to share this evidence following their meeting on September 6, 2024, the EC’s repeated requests for the information have not been met.

Deputy Chairman of Operations, Mr. Samuel Tettey, revealed this at a press conference in Accra on September 12, 2024.

He also addressed the NDC’s recent claims, noting that the party had presented five issues at the September 6 meeting and subsequently announced a nationwide demonstration on September 17 in response to the EC’s refusal to conduct a forensic audit.

Mr. Tettey refuted the NDC’s allegations that the EC had added 50,000 ghost names to the register.

He explained that while there may be deceased individuals on the register, the Exhibition Exercise is designed to allow the removal of such names.

The EC had requested details on the 50,000 deceased persons but had yet to receive this information from the NDC.

He assured the public that errors identified during the Exhibition are being addressed, and the Commission is committed to ensuring a credible Voters Register for the December 2024 elections.

“The Commission wishes to state that, almost all the discrepancies identified have to date been corrected. As in 2020, the Commission is committed to providing the country and all Political Parties with a robust and credible Voters Register that will guarantee free, fair, transparent and credible General Election in December 2024.

We urge the public to trust the EC to do this again and again,” he stated.
