Ing. Kenneth M. Arthur, Deputy Chief Executive in charge of Services at the Volta River Authority (VRA), has outlined a comprehensive plan for spillage, emphasizing interventions to safeguard downstream communities.

According to Ing. Arthur, VRA has identified communities at risk of spillage impact and initiated awareness campaigns to prevent undue alarm.

He further noted that the authority has engaged stakeholders and committed to providing regular updates to the public as part of precautionary measures.

Mr. Quartey emphasized the importance of VRA ensuring proper stakeholder engagement, sensitization, and public safety in the event of spillage from the Akosombo Dam.

He also urged VRA to involve Members of Parliament from affected areas in their sensitization efforts, aiming for a coordinated response to manage potential impacts of the spillage effectively.

The meeting is part of VRA’s ongoing efforts to sensitize stakeholders and the public about potential spillage from the Akosombo Dam and the measures being implemented to mitigate its impact on affected communities.

The meeting, attended by officials from the Ministry, Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Immigration Service, National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Ghana National Fire Service, and Ambulance Service, underscores the collaborative effort aimed at ensuring the safety of Ghanaians in light of potential spillage from the Akosombo Dam.

The Minister and stakeholders have commended VRA’s proactive approach to managing the spillage, and the authority has assured the public of its commitment to providing regular updates on the situation.
