1) Uber to use alerts to remind riders to buckle up

Ride-sharing company Uber Technologies plans to begin reminding passengers to wear seat belts by pinging driver phones and sending riders messages amid a spike in U.S. traffic deaths.

Uber told Reuters its new feature that launches Tuesday aims to alert riders to buckle up via a distinctive chime from the driver’s phone and a simultaneous push notification to the rider’s phone.

“The intent is really just to help remind riders that they should be buckling up – every seat, every time,” said Kristin Smith, Uber’s head of Global Road Safety Policy, who added the chime “sounds kind of like an airplane seat belt reminder.”

2) [Apiate Explosion] Mining company, MAXAM slammed with $6m fine

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has announced the imposition of sanctions against mining explosives manufacturing company, MAXAM Ghana Limited in relation to the explosion incident at Apiate on January 20, 2022.

Consequent to findings, Mr Jinapor said an administrative fine of a cedi equivalent of United States $1 million has been imposed on MAXAM at the prevailing commercial rate.

In addition, the company is to pay another $5 million fine to the government of Ghana, bringing the total fine to $6 million United States dollars.

3) Research shows wearing ladies pantyhose as face mask pivotal in stopping COVID spread

Researchers now say wearing ladies tights also known as pantyhose on your face could reduce the risk of getting Covid.

As part of a new study, Cambridge University scientists reviewed the use of rubber bands, tape and panty hose to make masks for better on the fave and found out that the most effective tactic was to wrap pantyhose around the bottom half of the face — on top of a mask.

This could reduce the amount of viral particles by up to seven times more than a loose mask on its own, by sealing the gaps around the nose and mouth, scientists said.

4) Will Smith, Kristen Stewart Score Nods, The Power of the Dog Leads with 12

On Tuesday morning, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced nominations for the 94th annual Academy Awards. The ceremony is set to air live from Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre on ABC Sunday, March 27.

The Power of the Dog earned 12 nominations — including for real-life couple Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons — who play husband and wife in the drama. Dune, the sci-fi epic starring Timothée Chalamet, earned 10 nods, while Belfast and West Side Story got seven.

5) NFL great Tom Brady likely to make return; ‘you never say never’

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady said he could return to the NFL following his decision to retire last week after a glittering 22-year career during which he won a record seven Super Bowl championships.

Speaking on the Let’s Go! podcast on Monday, the 44-year-old Brady said he was happy with his decision but wouldn’t mind reconsidering it six months from now.
