1) GRIDCo say parts of the country to suffer ‘dumsor’
The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) has announced that some parts of the country may experience power outages, popularly known as ‘dumsor’. In a press statement, it explained that the power outages to be witnessed is due to the falling of a communication mast on the 330kV Aboadze-Kumasi transmission line, resulting in the collapse of two adjacent towers.
It furthered that GRIDCo is working tirelessly to replace the fallen towers as soon as possible to resolve the power crisis issue. This statement comes after a blackout on Monday, November 8, 2021. GRIDCo in a press statement attributed the cause of the widespread power outage to a significant disturbance in its power systems.
2) Royal aide says Meghan anticipated father leaking letter
British royal Meghan told a former senior aide that a handwritten letter she wrote to her father could be leaked to the press and so she had been “meticulous” with her choice of words, London’s Court of Appeal was told on Wednesday.
The disclosure was put to the court as the Mail on Sunday newspaper seeks to overturn a ruling that it breached Meghan’s privacy and copyright by publishing parts of the letter she wrote to Thomas Markle in August 2018, three months after her wedding to Prince Harry, Queen Elizabeth’s grandson.
3) Facebook gives estimate of bullying, harassment on its platforms for first time
Facebook (FB.O) for the first time on Tuesday disclosed the prevalence of bullying and harassment on its platform, saying such content was seen between 14 and 15 times per every 10,000 views on the site in the third quarter.
The company, which recently changed its name to Meta, also said in its quarterly content moderation report that bullying and harassment content was seen between 5 and 6 times per 10,000 views of content on Instagram. Facebook said its bullying and harassment numbers only captured instances where the company did not need additional information, such as a report from a user, to decide if the content broke its rules.
4) Russian bomber planes signal backing for Belarus as migrant crisis escalates
Russia took the rare step of dispatching two nuclear-capable strategic bombers to patrol Belarusian airspace on Wednesday in a show of support to close ally Belarus at a time when it is locked in a migrant standoff with the European Union.
Moscow’s decision to up the ante came as the 27-nation bloc considered sanctions on Wednesday to punish Minsk for what it calls an artificially created crisis, something Belarus denies. United Nations human rights chief Michelle Bachelet called on states to deescalate and resolve the “intolerable” crisis.
5) Portugal’s Silva ruled out of World Cup qualifier against Ireland
Portugal midfielder Bernardo Silva will miss Thursday’s World Cup qualifier away to Ireland due to “muscle issues”, manager Fernando Santos told reporters on Wednesday.
Silva, who has been in terrific form for his club Manchester City this season and was instrumental in their Premier League derby win against rivals United at the weekend, missed training on Monday and was also absent on Tuesday.
