1) Couple burnt beyond redemption in tragic fire outbreak at Kotei

A fire outbreak that occurred at Kotei on the dawn of Friday, March 11 has claimed the lives of a couple after they were burnt beyond recognition. Mr. Godfred Konyo, about 54, and his wife, Mrs. Happy Danso, 50, were said to have slept when the unfortunate incident occurred.

Kwame Nyarko, an eyewitness narrating the incident said the sad incident happened at around 1:30 am on Friday dawn at the Kotei New site in the Oforikrom Municipality of the Ashanti region.

2) VRA and NEDCo. accuse Tamale residents of power theft; GH¢8.4m lost every month

Eight out of ten households in the Tamale metropolis of the Northern Region are into electricity theft, according to the Volta River Authority (VRA) and Northern Electricity Department (NEDCo).

“If you visit ten houses in Tamale, you will see eight of these houses stealing power. We lose GH¢8.4 million every month in Tamale alone primarily due to power theft, and every attempt by VRA staff to clamp down is met with attacks on the VRA and NEDCo staff,” the NEDCo Senior Staff Association Chairman, William Asare said.

3) India accidentally fires missile into Pakistan due to ‘malfunction’

India said on Friday it accidentally fired a missile into Pakistan because of a “technical malfunction” during routine maintenance. “On 9 March 2022, in the course of a routine maintenance, a technical malfunction led to the accidental firing of a missile,” the government said in a statement.

“It is learnt that the missile landed in an area of Pakistan. While the incident is deeply regrettable, it is also a matter of relief that there has been no loss of life due to the accident.”

4) Court refuses to drop rape charge against actor Gerard Depardieu

A Paris court on Thursday rejected a bid by Gerard Depardieu to have rape charges against him dropped, the chief prosecutor in the case said, raising the prospect of a trial for the iconic French actor.

Depardieu, 73, was charged with raping and sexually assaulting a young French actress at his home in Paris in 2018, an accusation he has called “baseless”. But Paris chief prosecutor Remy Heitz said in a statement that there was “serious and confirmed evidence that justifies Gerard Depardieu to remain charged” in the case brought by the actress, Charlotte Arnould.

5) Liverpool defender Joel Matip named Premier League Player of the Month

Liverpool defender, Joel Matip was named Premier League Player of the Month for February, while x took home Manager of the Month.

Matip becomes the first Cameroonian to win the award, which was richly deserved after a stellar month in which he played every minute of Premier League football.
