1) Man chops off own legs under train to secure £2.4m insurance payout

A man has been handed a suspended jail sentence and a heavy fine, after he deliberately chopped off his own legs to claim a £2.4 million insurance payout. The defendant named only as Sandor Cs. due to strict local privacy laws, was found guilty of purposely lying down in front of a train so he could pocket the cash in 2014.

He however insisted he was innocent and that he stepped on a shard of glass which resulted in him losing his balance and falling in front of the train that was just departing the station, according to reports.

2) South Korea testing systems for air taxi control

South Korea demonstrated a system for controlling urban air mobility vehicles (UAM) on Thursday, which it hopes will serve as taxis between major airports and downtown Seoul as soon as 2025, cutting travel time by two-thirds.

“As UAM is expected to become one of the common means of transportation that citizens use in daily life, it is absolutely imperative that we test and try out UAM services in various environments,” Transport Minister Noh Hyeong-ouk, who attended the demonstration on Thursday, said in a statement. Powered by helicopter-like rotors for vertical take-offs and landings, the craft demonstrated can be piloted or operate autonomously without one.

3) Travis Scott dragged for plotting to exploit Astroworld victims with his ‘sketchy’ online therapy offer

Travis Scott has been accused of ‘exploiting’ the Astroworld tragedy and ‘profiting’ off of concertgoers’ trauma after partnering with the controversial virtual therapy provider BetterHelp. Scott, who has had more than 40 lawsuits filed against him following the concert, released a statement on Monday pledging to cover all funeral costs and refund the cost of all tickets.

He also announced that he was partnering with BetterHelp to supply free one-on-one online therapy to any concertgoers impacted by the tragic events at Astroworld. However, the initiative has been met with backlash with Scott being accused that he would financially benefit from the partnership, which BetterHelp has denied.

4) Ghana suffers disappointing draw against Ethiopia

The Black Stars failed to go top of Group G after abysmally drawing 1-1 with Ethiopia at the Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg on Thursday. Ghana couldn’t hold on to their lead as the Walia Ibex equalise very late in the game to pick a point.

A spectacular double save by goalkeeper Teklemariam Shanko in the early exchanges of the match denied the Black Stars the lead in Johannesburg. The Black Stars got the breakthrough in the 22nd minute through skipper Andre Dede Ayew who led by example with a sumptuous free-kick finish.
