1) 7-year-old pupil drowns in school water tank

A 7-year-old pupil of the High Mowing International Basic School in Okorase in the Eastern Region, has reportedly drowned in a septic tank.

The boy is said to have fallen into a 10-feet tank that contains water on Tuesday, January 10.

He was rushed to the Koforidua Central Regional Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

The management has since informed the family of the deceased of the incident and has subsequently notified the police about it.

2) Doctors call on Akufo-Addo to immediately suspend nationwide vaccine rollout

Some 11 doctors have written to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to issue a directive for the nationwide vaccine rollout in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic to be paused.

The doctors say the risks associated with these vaccines, per the data studied so far, outweigh the potential benefits, if any.

In their petition dated Monday, January 10, 2022, the doctors, who call themselves as Concerned Ghanaian Doctors, cited how the UK and Israel are still battling with the virus despite a high vaccination rate of their respective populations.

3) Rivals drag WWE to court over alleged illegal wrestling monopoly

World Wrestling Entertainment Inc was sued on Tuesday by a smaller rival that accused it of violating federal antitrust law by monopolizing the professional wrestling market.

MLW Media LLC accused WWE and its Chief Executive Vince McMahon of threatening content partners for doing business with MLW, to help protect its 85% share of the U.S. market for professional wrestling broadcasting rights.

In an emailed statement, WWE said it believed MLW’s claims had no merit and that it intended to vigorously defend itself. McMahon was not named as a defendant.

4) Investors sue Kim Kardashian and Floyd Mayweather over false crypto promo

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian and boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. are facing a lawsuit alleging the celebrities misled investors in their promotion of a cryptocurrency token.

The lawsuit, filed Jan. 7 in Los Angeles federal court, claims the celebrities touted tokens sold by EthereumMax, or EMAX, in order to boost its price and make themselves a profit “at the expense of their followers and investors.”

“The company’s executives, collaborating with several celebrity promoters … made false or misleading statements about EthereumMax through social media advertisements and other promotional activities,” the lawsuit stated.

5) Chinese broadcaster ordered to pay Premier League $213m over TV deal

The Premier League was awarded $213 million by London’s High Court on Tuesday following the collapse of their broadcast deal with China’s PPLive Sports International.

The Premier League terminated their contract with PPLive in September 2020 after the broadcaster, part of the retail group Suning that also owns Serie A club Inter Milan, defaulted on payments due in March and June that year.

Judge Peter Fraser ruled that PPLive owed the Premier League payments of $210.3 million and $2.673 million as part of the deal’s live action and clips package agreements, respectively, as well as interest.
