1) Chief takes own life after money doubling investment went south

Residents of Daawereso, a farming community in the Asante Akim North District of the Ashanti region woke up on Wednesday morning to the bizarre news of the death of the Gyaasehene of the village.

The 76-year-old Nana Opuni Kwagyan allegedly shot himself in the neck with a locally manufactured gun in his bedroom which he shared with one of his sons.

Members of the community who knew the deceased expressed shock that he would fall for such a scam because he was deemed to be very respectable and enlightened.

2) Microsoft quit producing Xbox One consoles

Microsoft Corp has stopped manufacturing all Xbox One consoles to focus on producing its next-generation consoles, the Verge reported on Thursday, citing a senior executive of the gaming division.

According to The Verge, Microsoft originally discontinued its Xbox One X and digital Xbox One S ahead of the Xbox Series X launch in 2020.

Microsoft did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

3) Nigeria officially lifts Twitter ban after company agreed to be ‘respectful’

Nigeria will lift a ban on Twitter from midnight after the social media platform agreed to open a local office, among other agreements with authorities in the West African country, a senior government official said on Wednesday.

Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, director general of the National Information Technology Development Agency said in a statement that Buhari had given approval to lift the suspension.

“Twitter has agreed to act with a respectful acknowledgement of Nigerian laws and the national culture and history on which such legislation has been built…,” Abdullahi’s statement said.

4) Kylie Jenner becomes first female celebrity to reach 300 million followers on IG

Kylie Jenner achieved a major social media milestone as she became the first woman to reach 300 million Instagram followers cited People.

The Kylie Cosmetics mogul,24, is currently the third most-followed account on the application behind the official Instagram page (460 million) and Cristiano Ronaldo (388 million).

Behind Jenner are Lionel Messi and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson with 300 million followers and 289 million followers, respectively.

5) Australian Open crowds capped at 50% capacity due to COVID

Crowds at the main Australian Open tennis stadiums will be capped at 50% capacity under updated COVID-19 restrictions, organisers said on Thursday, as authorities battle a surge of cases in Melbourne.

Face masks will also be mandatory for all patrons, except when eating or drinking, and there will be density limits of one person per two square metres at indoor hospitality venues.

Tennis Australia (TA) said the 50% cap only applied for ticket sales at the Rod Laver Arena centre court and the second show court Margaret Court Arena.
