1) CID bust 4 men who specialise in luring and raping women through IG model hunt
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested four men for allegedly raping and robbing women at Adenta and its environs. The four suspects are said to have created an Instagram page named “phone shop” which was used to advertise photo shoots targeting ladies.
According to reports, women who expressed interest in their services were lured into the bush and ended up being raped. Some were also “forced to disclose the password of their mobile phones and MobileMoney PINs” of which suspects transferred money into their wallets. The victims are women between the ages of 20 to 30 years of age.
2) Finance Ministry greenlights GES’ recruitment of 16,000 newly-trained teachers
The Ministry of Finance approved the financial clearance for the recruitment of over 16,000 newly-trained teachers by the Ghana Education Service (GES) effective December 1, 2021.
GES has been directed to ensure the newly trained teachers have their documents processed in time and placed on the mechanized payroll early enough to enable the Accountant-General’s Department to effect payment in their salaries.
3) Traders undecided as bitcoin heads for worst week in six months
Bitcoin fell to a one-month low on Friday and was headed for its worst week in six months as traders have booked profits from a long rally and been spooked by an expectation that creditors of collapsed crypto exchange Mt Gox might liquidate their payments.
The largest cryptocurrency by market value, bitcoin was down 1.6% at $55,980 by mid-session in Asia, its lowest since mid-October and 20% below last week’s record high. “Selling pressure has been quite constant,” said Matthew Dibb, chief operating officer at Singapore-based crypto asset manager Stack Funds, who expects it could continue until the token finds support at around $53,000.
4) Austria forced back into full lockdown, Germany next, as COVID-19 infections swing back to life
Austria will become the first country in western Europe to reimpose a full COVID-19 lockdown, it said on Friday as neighbouring Germany warned it may follow suit, sending shivers through financial markets worried about the economic fallout.
Roughly two-thirds of Austria’s population is fully vaccinated against COVID-19, one of the lowest rates in western Europe. Its infections are among the highest on the continent, with a seven-day incidence of 991 per 100,000 people.
5)Manchester City’s De Bruyne catches coronavirus
Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne has tested positive for COVID-19 on international duty with Belgium, manager Pep Guardiola said on Friday.
De Bruyne, 30, played in Belgium’s 1-1 draw with Wales in Cardiff on Tuesday. He will miss City’s home matches against Everton in the Premier League on Sunday as well as Paris St Germain in next week’s Champions League group stage. “Unfortunately Kevin tested positive for COVID in Belgium,” Guardiola told reporters, adding that the midfielder would isolate for 10 days.
