1) Several Accra towns brace for water shortage as GWCL set to shutdown Weija plant; see areas

The Management of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has disclosed that its Weija plant will be shutdown temporarily on Wednesday, March 23, 2022.

In a statement issued on March 22, 2022, the management of the GWCL said, the shutdown is to enable the ECG to complete its expansion works on the plant.

2) Administrator in police custody for stealing ¢1,079,728, and using it on soccer betting

An administrator of Kabfam company limited who allegedly stole GH¢1,079,728.00 and used the money for soccer bets has been remanded into Police custody by an Accra Circuit Court.

Nhyira Agyapong is facing charges of conspiracy to steal and forgery of official documents. The matter has been adjourned to April 4, 2022.

3) Students in tears as Taliban orders girls’ high schools to remain closed

The Taliban on Wednesday backtracked on their announcement that high schools would open for girls, saying they would remain closed until a plan was drawn up in accordance with Islamic law for them to reopen.

The u-turn took many by surprise, leaving students in tears and drawing condemnation from humanitarian agencies, rights groups and diplomats at a time when the Taliban administration is seeking international recognition.

4) Beyonce, Billie Eilish to perform their songs at the Oscars

Music superstars Beyonce and Billie Eilish will perform their Oscar-nominated songs live at this year’s Academy Awards ceremony on March 27, producers announced on Tuesday.

Beyonce will sing “Be Alive,” a song she co-wrote for the movie “King Richard” about the father of tennis legends Venus and Serena Williams, at the film industry honors on Sunday. Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas O’Connell will team for their James Bond theme “No Time to Die.”

5) Usyk granted permission to leave Ukraine in preparation of rematch against Joshua

Ukraine’s heavyweight world champion Oleksandr Usyk will prepare for his rematch with Briton Anthony Joshua, ESPN reported on Tuesday, after he received permission to leave his country and train.

It is reported that a fight between the two would take place this summer, however, after the Ukrainian sports minister offered Usyk permission to leave the country. Ukrainian rules bar men aged 18-60, who could be conscripted, from leaving the country. Promoter Matchroom Boxing did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
