1) Acquire a police extract if you lose your ID card – NIA to Ghanaians

Mr. Daniel Agyei Kyeremeh, the Sunyani District Registration Officer of the National Identification Authority (NIA) has advised Ghanaians who have misplaced their Identification (ID) cards to go for Police extract before a new one is replaced.

He reminded applicants’ replacement of cards and premium service attracted charges, but added registration for new cards was free of charge. Mr. Kyeremeh also advised applicants whose cards were still with the Authority to be patient, saying, the NIA offices had become operationalised nationwide and all applicants and new ones would receive their ID cards.

2) Widespread jubilation as Barbados discards Britain’s Queen Elizabeth to declare republic

Barbados ditched Britain’s Queen Elizabeth as head of state, forging a new republic on Tuesday with its first-ever president and severing its last remaining colonial bonds nearly 400 years after the first English ships arrived at the Caribbean island.

At the strike of midnight, the new republic was born to the cheers of hundreds of people lining Chamberlain Bridge in the capital, Bridgetown. A 21 gun salute fired as the national anthem of Barbados was played over a crowded Heroes Square.

3) Rapper Common and Tiffany Haddish end their two-year relationship

Hollywood couple, Tifanny Haddish and Common have broken up. Actress, Haddish and Oscar/Grammy award winning rapper, Common began dating last year after meeting on the set of “The Kitchen,” a drama film that premiered in 2019.

But the pair have now broken up according to People magazine. “They are never in the same city together and both of them are just too busy for a serious relationship,” a source told the magazine. “This is, hands down, the best relationship I have ever been in,” Haddish said at the time.

4) England enforces mask mandates, other measures in bid to curb Omicron variant

New mask mandates and other measures aimed at curbing the spread of the Omicron coronavirus variant came into force in England on Tuesday, as Prime Minister Boris Johnson eyes an expanded booster programme to help increase protection against COVID-19.

From Tuesday morning, face masks are compulsory on transport and in shops, banks and hair salons. All international travellers must take a PCR test by the end of the second day after they arrive, and self-isolate until they get their result. That is in addition to restrictions on arrivals from 10 southern African countries, who have to enter hotel quarantine.

5) All tears as Messi crushes Lewandowski’s Ballon d’Or dreams to clinch 7th title

Argentina’s Lionel Messi won the Ballon d’Or award for the best player in the world for a record-stretching seventh time on Monday, beating Robert Lewandowski and Jorginho to lift soccer’s most prestigious trophy yet again.

The forward added to his 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015 and 2019 trophies after winning the Copa America for the first time with his country last July. “It’s incredible to be here again. Two years ago I thought it was the last time. Winning the Copa America was key”, Messi said at Paris’s Theatre du Chatelet.
