1) Two drown in hotel pond after cruise boat capsized

Two men – Boamponsem Ernest and Kwame Peprah – have died after drowning in Fobidom hotel and recreational center pond in the Ashanti region. According to reports, the duo were cruising in a boat when it capsized. Speaking to the media, the National Disaster Management Organisation in the Offinso South Municipality, Rebecca Kusi, said the victims, before their demise were not in their life jackets as required before cruising on the pond.

The police, upon hearing the news visited the hotel facility and subsequently invited the owner, Amoafo Atuobi Yeboah, to assist in investigations. Meanwhile, two other persons who were rescued were sent to St Patrick’s Hospital for treatment.

2) Taliban officially ban barbers from trimming beards in Afghanistan

The Taliban has issued a new decree recommending that barbershops refrain from shaving or trimming beards, saying such actions are forbidden in Islam. 

This comes days after Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers imposed travel restrictions on women, stating that women must not travel long distances without a male relative escorting them. The Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice issued a copy of instructions this week which Afghans are expected to live by.

3) Tesla recalls almost half a million electric cars over safety issues

Tesla Inc is recalling more than 475,000 of its Model 3 and Model S electric cars to address rearview camera and trunk issues that increase the risk of crashing, the U.S. road safety regulator said on Thursday.

The model years affected in the recall range from 2014 to 2021, and the total number of recalled vehicles is almost equivalent to the half a million vehicles Tesla delivered last year. The U.S. electric vehicle manufacturer is recalling 356,309 2017-2020 Model 3 vehicles to address rearview camera issues and 119,009 Model S vehicles due to front hood problems, the federal regulator said.

4) Rapper Quavo dragged to court for allegedly beating up limo driver

Quavo is facing a lawsuit from a limo driver who’s claimed that he was beaten up by the Migos rapper and his entourage on July 3, reported Page Six.

According to reports, the unnamed driver has filed a lawsuit detailing the alleged assault, and according to his testimony, Quavo and his group were upset because the driver had left one of them behind when picking them from a club. This apparently angered the 30-year-old rapper and his crew, who proceeded to shout at the driver before assaulting him.

5) Three Liverpool players COVID-19 positive before Chelsea trip – Klopp

Three Liverpool players and more staff members have tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the trip to Chelsea but it is too soon to ask the Premier League to postpone the game, manager Juergen Klopp said on Friday.

“We have three new COVID cases in the team and a few more in the staff, so it’s not so cool at the moment,” Klopp told reporters ahead of Sunday’s game in London.
