Over nine individuals have been arrested and are facing legal action for various infractions during the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), according to the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC).

Before the examination began, WAEC held briefing sessions with District Directors of Education and Supervisors to inform them of the new rules, including a ban on mobile phones at examination centers.

Despite this warning, several supervisors and invigilators were found with mobile phones and arrested.

The arrests took place at various examination centers, including Save our Souls Educational Centre, where three teachers were caught assisting candidates.

Other centers included Jinijini Senior High School, Nkoranza Senior High School, Chemu Senior High School, Liberty Hills School, Jachie Pramso SHS, and Santoe Basic School.

WAEC reported that some individuals unrelated to the examination attempted to assist candidates, while others, including teachers and invigilators, were found with mobile phones containing answers to exam questions or taking snapshots of question papers.

All arrested individuals have been handed over to the police and are being processed for court, according to WAEC.

The Council is committed to ensuring the integrity of the examination process and will not tolerate any form of malpractice.
