The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has issued a stern warning to BECE candidates ahead of the 2024 exams.
At a press conference, John Kapi, Head of Public Affairs, emphasized that attempting to bribe invigilators by inserting money or contact numbers into answer booklets is a serious offense.

WAEC has observed a disturbing trend in recent years where candidates seek external help during exams.
Kapi emphasized that such actions are punishable and will result in severe consequences, including cancellation of entire exams.
Candidates are prohibited from bringing mobile phones and electronic devices into exam halls, and supervisors and invigilators are also barred from doing so.
Kapi urged parents to ensure their children comply with these directives to avoid result cancellation.
WAEC has noticed instances where candidates write phone numbers or phrases like “call me” or “help me” in their answer booklets, which constitutes seeking external assistance.
The council is adamant that such behavior will not be tolerated.
WAEC has reiterated its commitment to maintaining exam integrity and warned candidates against any form of malpractice, emphasizing that severe penalties will be imposed on those found guilty.
