The West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo) has initiated preparatory works for its scheduled 28-day maintenance shutdown.
On Wednesday, January 29, 2025, Channel One News visited WAPCo’s Takoradi Regulatory and Metering Station at the Aboadze Thermal plant.

In an interview, Engineer Benoni Owusu Ayeh, the Operations and Maintenance Manager for WAPCo West, assured that the maintenance would be completed within the designated 28 days. He highlighted that the shutdown will also allow for repairs on sub-sea valves, particularly those at Tema and Cotonou, as well as other onshore activities.
“This is the longest shutdown, which we carry out every five years, and we have synchronized our activities to ensure efficiency,” Engineer Ayeh stated.
“We don’t normally shut down for this long period of time. We have synchronised everything to optimise it to ensure we keep our pipeline in check. The integrity of the pipeline is key,” he stated.
The West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo) on January 15 announced a two-week postponement of its offshore pipeline cleaning and inspection exercise, commonly referred to as “pigging,” in a move aimed at accommodating key stakeholder interests.
Initially scheduled to begin on January 20, 2025, the comprehensive pipeline maintenance activity will now commence on February 3, 2025, a statement by WAPCo said.
