The management of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has assured that the essential consumables required by renal patients, currently held at Tema Port, will be cleared in the coming days.

This commitment comes at a time of heightened anxiety among patients who rely on these supplies for life-saving treatments, as the prolonged shortage has caused significant distress.

The shortage led to the closure of Korle Bu’s renal unit, leaving many patients without critical dialysis sessions and raising serious concerns among their families and caregivers.

Speaking to Citi FM on Monday, August 19, Korle Bu’s Public Relations Officer, Mustapha Salifu, acknowledged the gravity of the situation and the frustration felt by the patients.

He confirmed that the hospital is making every effort to expedite the clearance of the supplies, in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health.

Mr. Salifu apologized for the delay and urged patients to remain patient, emphasizing the hospital’s commitment to resolving the issue.

“We have received assurances from the Ministry [of Health] that the consumables will be cleared soon,” he said.

“We understand the patients have already endured a lot, but we ask for their cooperation so that we can resume normal operations as quickly as possible.”

Baffuor Kojo Ahenkorah, a spokesperson for the renal patients, expressed the group’s concerns, stressing the urgency of the situation.

He called for timely action from the hospital management, hoping that the promised clearance would happen soon.

“We will remain hopeful and expect clear communication by Wednesday on the status of the supplies,” Ahenkorah added.
