We are in active discussion with the EGG to avoid disconnection

The Ministry of Health in a statement, has expressed its commitment to help resolve the outstanding debts owed by 91 hospitals to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

It would be recalled that warnings have been issued by the National Taskforce of the ECG regarding the potential disconnection of these hospitals from the national grid due to an accumulated debts.These health facilities collectively owe a significant sum of GH¢261 million to the power distribution company.

Meanwhile,the Public Relations Officer for the Health Ministry,Issac Offei Baah speaking in an interview revealed that the Government is already engaging in discussions with the ECG and will ensure that appropriate actions are taken to avoid any disruptions of power supply to these hospitals.

“The Ministry of Health is fully aware of the situation and is actively seeking to resolve it” he said.

According to him,arrangements are being made to convene meetings with the heads of these hospitals to discuss potential solutions, including reconciliation procedures.

“Efforts to settle the debts were initiated last year, and meetings are being held with all affected hospitals,” he added.

Mr. Offei acknowledged that while some payments have been received, the outstanding debts must still be cleared.He however assured that the Ministry is earnestly addressing the issue to prevent any disconnections.
