The Ghana Police Service has assured the public of its readiness to ensure security and order during the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s nationwide demonstration set for Tuesday, September 17, 2024.

The demonstration stems from the NDC’s concerns over alleged discrepancies in the voter register managed by the Electoral Commission (EC).

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, September 16, 2024, ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of Police Public Affairs, emphasized that the police are fully prepared to safeguard the protests, which will take place across all 16 regional capitals.

During the demonstrations, NDC leaders are expected to deliver petitions to the EC’s regional offices and headquarters in Accra.

This protest comes amid growing tensions between the NDC and the EC regarding the integrity of the voter register ahead of the 2024 elections.

ACP Ansah-Akrofi also reminded the NDC of its obligations under Section 3 of the Public Order Act 1994 (Act 491), which regulates public demonstrations.

“We want to reaffirm our commitment to maintaining security, law, and order throughout the entire exercise and beyond,” she stated.
