Ghana midfielder Elisha Owusu has highlighted the urgency of performing well in the Black Stars’ upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Sudan.

The Black Stars are scheduled to host Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday, October 10, with kickoff set for 4 p.m. Following a challenging start to their AFCON qualifying campaign, which included a 1-0 defeat to Angola and a 1-1 draw with Niger, Ghana sits in third place in Group F with only one point.

This makes the upcoming doubleheader against Sudan critical for their qualification aspirations.

During the team’s first training session on Monday, Owusu stressed the importance of the upcoming match, saying, “We know what we have to do. This game is important to us. We cannot afford to lose this match, so we will do everything we can to play well and secure a victory.”

He assured fans of the team’s dedication to delivering strong performances in both matches, aiming for consecutive wins to enhance their chances of qualification.

“We feel blessed to be here in Accra. I know the whole country is behind us, and we will do our utmost to provide a good performance for everyone,” he added.

With two vital matches against Sudan this month, the Black Stars are focused on securing their place in the 2025 AFCON tournament and ending their 42-year trophy drought.
