The Police service responded to Wa West Member of Parliament Peter Toobu regarding his allegations of secret recruitment.

According to the Police, they have not yet started recruitment, contradicting the lawmaker’s claims.

Peter Toobu, a former Superintendent of Police, stated that during his investigation at the Police Training School in Tesano, he discovered individuals undergoing medical examinations for recruitment without any public announcement of such an exercise.

The Ghana Police Service has issued a statement in response to claims made by Hon. Peter Toobu, Member of Parliament for Wa West.

The statement acknowledges that the Police have been aware of comments alleging an ongoing recruitment exercise at the National Police Training School without prior public announcement.

“We wish to state that the Police Service has not commenced any exercise of such nature.”

Currently, the process involves assessing the eligibility of applicants who have purchased the forms.

Mr. Quartey clarified this while rejecting claims from the Minority in Parliament about secretive recruitment by the Ministry into security services.

He emphasized that the Ministry of the Interior does not conduct recruitment; rather, it is managed directly by the security and intelligence agencies themselves.

“This is why we are saying that let us give the opportunity to those who have these forms so that they can go through the process as Ghanaians, if they are able to meet the eligibility criteria then they are recruited.”

He added “So our position is to say clearly that we have not started recruitment. I have heard a lot of things out there but for the record, the Ministry of the Interior does not do recruitment, we are policy drivers.

“It is the security and intelligence agencies that do the recruitment and they have criteria for people to meet and the number of people they need, then the Ministry of Finance will give the approval. Once that approval is given they go through the process and then they engage.”
