Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, has announced that the Commission has thoroughly updated the voters’ register for the upcoming 2024 general elections.
In her opening remarks at Tuesday’s IPAC meeting on October 1, she highlighted that the Commission has addressed and corrected errors identified in the voters’ register.

The EC stated that the current register is now more accurate compared to the version used during the voters’ exhibition in early August.
“As a Commission, we have dedicated the past few weeks to rectifying the discrepancies, and you will find that the provisional voters’ register today is significantly different and more accurate than what was exhibited and provided to the parties in August 2024.
“The discrepancies that have been detected to date have largely been corrected, and the register presented to parties in early August is very different from what we have today,” Jean Mensa explained.
She also dismissed claims that the EC is intentionally trying to disenfranchise certain voters as untrue.
The Commission emphasized that the IPAC meeting is part of its commitment to ensuring a transparent electoral process ahead of the 2024 general elections.
The Electoral Commission (EC) stated that the purpose of the meeting is to allow Political Parties to share any observations they have regarding the Provisional Voters Register (PVR).
This meeting follows concerns raised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which has called for a forensic audit of the voters’ register due to alleged discrepancies that the party claims to have identified.
While the NDC has formally petitioned the EC on this issue, the Commission has urged the party to allow it to finalize the cleanup of the register before making such demands.
During the meeting on Tuesday, October 1, the EC Chairperson described the request for a forensic audit as “premature,” noting that the errors detected in the register have already been addressed.
