The Minority in Parliament plans to prosecute Chief of Staff Frema Osei Opare.

They claim she unlawfully told the Health Ministry to find other ways to fund the maintenance of ambulances bought in 2019.

This order reportedly led to $10 million being spent on ambulance servicing.

They said the Health Ministry confirmed that the Chief of Staff’s order came after Parliament rejected a high budget proposal from the Special Development Initiative Secretariat for 2023.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Chairman of the Government Assurances Committee of Parliament, told the media that the Chief of Staff will face consequences for her actions.

“So, chief of staff, you know that the special development initiatives secretariat their budget has not been approved by parliament and I recall they brought some [huhudious] inflated budget. I salute both sides of the house for rejecting that secretarial budget.

“When you don’t have budget approval, what do you do? Look, this Ministry of Health statement they have just roped in the chief of staff. A future prosecution must include the chief of staff, that she masterminded this lawlessness.

“Because you know that they don’t have parliamentary approval. So, what do you do, you wait for the midyear review or the next budget cycle or do you come to parliament under a separate arrangement by motion and get parliamentary approval? You don’t write to your ministers to say forget about parliament; to hell with parliament. Go and explore ways, are you running this country with your money?

“Are you using your pocket money, you see the lawlessness, the impunity. So, chief of staff your day of reckoning is coming,” he stated.
